July 2014 Navajo Willow Planting Day

Along with the Colorado Cattleman’s Agricultural Land Trust, the NRCS, Betty Shahan, and Kruger Farms, the Alliance hosted a willow and cottonwood planting day with the local community. It was a fun day that included discussions on agriculture, conservation and restoration, and native plantings along the Navajo River. This project was funded by a Great Outdoors Colorado (GOCO) Riparian Restoration Initiative program and is part of a larger effort on the Navajo River in southern Colorado to conduct 7.5 miles of riparian restoration below the Oso Diversion dam.

For more information about the ecological and wildlife benefits of riparian restoration and in-stream habitat improvements, check out the Rocky Mountain Bird Observatory website, here.
