July 2014 Small-Headed Goldenweed Monitoring

The Alliance and the Center for Creative Healing Arts hosted a monitoring day for a globally endemic plant, the small-headed goldenweed. This rare plant is only found in the rock outcroppings near Tres Piedras, NM. A portion of the suitable habitat for the plant is on Tres Piedras Partners Ranch, which is adjacent to the Carson National Forest, that is also occupied habitat for the plant. The state of New Mexico’s Botany Program Coordinator, NM Forestry Division, Partners for Fish and Wildlife, and rare plant expert Bob Sivinski, joined us to confirm the presence of the plant on the ranch, provide a specimen for the NM herbaria, and discuss monitoring procedures moving forward.
