On November 12th, representatives from the Upper Chama Soil and Water Conservation District, private landowners, Brazos Canyon Volunteer Fire Department, New Mexico Land Conservancy, New Mexico State Forestry and Rio Arriba County Fire Department met in Brazos for Part II of the Rio Brazos (lower) Watershed Tour. Participants continued the discussion about current and possible future issues affecting the watershed, including forest health, catastrophic wildfire, timing of runoff and water storage, development, bosque regeneration, temperature and sedimentation in the lower reaches and on Chavez Creek. The group discussed the opportunity to apply for watershed-based planning funding through New Mexico Environment Department 319 Program and will be moving forward with an application in December.
