Escalante High School Scholarship

Congratulations to the recipients of the 2017 Chama Peak Land Alliance Scholarship for Escalante High School!

We are pleased to announce that Isaiah Gurulé is the winner of the 2017 $1,000 Conservation Scholarship awarded by the Chama Peak Land Alliance, generously sponsored by Dan and Ashlyn Perry, to exceptional high school students at Escalante High School in Tierra Amarilla, NM. Additional $500 scholarships were awarded to Alexandria Marquez and Brianna Mestas. Scholarships assist students in defraying costs associated with their pursuit of higher education. Congratulations to these exceptional students!

Isaiah Gurulé

Isaiah Gurulé is a 2017 Escalante High School graduate, and recipient of a $1000 Chama Peak Alliance Scholarship. He will receive his Associate’s of Arts this summer from the University of New Mexico Taos, and plans to attend New Mexico Institute of Mining and Technology in the fall. While attending high school, Isaiah was a part of Honor’s Society, Student Senate, and service learning. He volunteered in his community in clean-up days, and as a ayudante in his local morada. Isaiah Gurulé currently lives in Canjilon, New Mexico. His hobbies include running, reading, and enjoying time with his little sister. Above all, Isaiah would like to extend his deepest gratitude to the Chama Peak Land Alliance and, specifically, Mr. Dan & Ashlyn Perry for generously offering this scholarship. The positive impact—not only financially but in morale—will  remain with him.

Alexandria Marquez

Let me begin by introducing myself, my name is Alexandria Marquez and I am a lifelong resident of the Chama Valley. I attended Chama Elementary and Middle School and graduated from Escalante High School in May. I now plan on attending college at Adams State University in Alamosa, Colorado; where I plan to obtain a degree in Molecular Biology. Upon completion of my Bachelor’s degree, I intend to pursue a Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree at Oklahoma University. It is my hope to return and serve my community by providing affordable dental and orthodontic services.

Brianna Mestas

My name is Brianna Mestas and I am the daughter of Frank and Ruby Mestas and the granddaughter of Thomas and Teri Rivas. I am 18 years old and live in Chama, New Mexico. I currently graduated from Escalante Middle- High School and graduated with my Associates Degree in Liberal Arts from UNM Taos. In the fall of 2017, I will be attending the University of New Mexico and plan on getting my degree in International Business and a minor in Accounting. I participated in Basketball and Track my freshman and sophomore years and am a two year member of the National Honor Society and The National Society of High School Scholars. Outside of my community I serve my church by being a Eucharistic Minister and a server. In the summer of 2015, I was a People to People Student Ambassador. I was able to travel to Italy, France, and England to learn about their different cultures. My plan for the future is to attend the University of New Mexico and get a Bachelor’s degree in International Business. I wish to have a career in New Mexico or Colorado where I can be close to home and still be able to travel to different cities.
