Here's just a small sampling of our recent and on-going projects.
Return of the native - rio grande cutthroat trout
In 2017, the Alliance received funding from the New Mexico Habitat Conservation Initiative to compile statewide research on Rio Grande Cutthroat Trout (Oncorchynchus clarkia virginalis) and the feasibility, challenges, and work required to expand populations of New Mexico’s state fish to more of its historic range.
forest & watershed health
We are currently working with the Rio Grande Water Fund to implement forest health improvement work in the Navajo and Blanco basins in southern Colorado. This approximately $1 million project will begin on-ground work in spring 2018.
In May 2017 the Alliance and partners hosted a Prescribed Fire Training Exchange (TREX). This 10-day project provided training to firefighters, outreach to local communities, and completed burns on private and public land near Chama, NM and Pagosa Springs, CO.
